Andrian Rubeno Lagrein Alto Adige DOC

Lagrein is native to the South Tyrol region. It’s a high-yielding variety that is prone to hard tannins so it needs to be strictly controlled to ensure the noble spicy tones and berry/violet bouquet are still present, to balance the formidable structure the grape can provide. Andrian’s Lagrein grows on the lower slopes on alluvial soils, with yields are controlled to 70hl/ha for this wine. After a harvest by hand, a gentle and temperature-regulated primary fermentation was in steel, followed by secondary fermentation and a short maturation in large oak.

The wine is impenetrably dark and inky in the glass, with a brooding bouquet of blackcurrant, baking spices and tobacco. On the palate it’s juicy and supple, with dark berry flavours and earth across a medium-full mouthfeel. A mineral-laced finish with fine tannins carries the slightest whisper of salted liquorice.
