The Shiraz bottling is from two vineyards, both around 50 years old. The fruit always remains in separate batches right until the end of maturation, allowing the winemaking team the opportunity to assess each parcel and compose a perfectly balanced wine just before bottling. A combination of vessels and winemaking techniques are utilized, and all parcels receive approximately 18 months maturation in French and American oak hogsheads.

“We can start by declaring this sensational Coonawarra Shiraz as a serious contender for the best value red wine of the year. This is such an enjoyable wine at every stage. Black with a dark, vibrant rim, this is plush, ripe and generous. The nose reveals aromas weaving through mocha, chocolate, licorice, cocoa powder and coffee beans. A seductive texture right through to fine, if slightly drying, tannins. The wine has excellent length and is finely balanced. There is certainly room for further improvement over the coming years, and it should drink well for at least the next dozen or so. “Redcurrant, sweet spice, mint and creamy vanillin oak characters combine to attractive effect here. In fact, take the lush, soft, come-hither face of this and underpin with it firm, dry, slightly stringy tannin and that’s pretty much the wine in its entirety, though freshening acidity also plays a key role.
