Medici’s classic sweet and lively Lambrusco is made from the varieties Salamino and Marani. The production is straightforward – fermentation in stainless steel tank is stopped at 50 g/L residual sugar and then the wine is processed via Charmat for the bubbles.
Unlike many Lambrusco wines of this style, year after year this wine is known for its abundant fruit purity – bounds of vibrant red berries and wild roses flood the palate, and there’s plenty of acidity to ensure the wine is never too heavy. Lighter than most Australian sparkling reds (just 8.5% abv), and with just a touch more sugar, this is just the ticket for Christmas lunch in the sun, or an Emilia Spritz in winter
“This classic Lambrusco offers a mix of sour cherry and wild blueberry aromas on the nose. Hints of candied violets and spiced plums follow along on the plush and forward nose. The palate is rich and lush, reminiscent of blackberry jam, complete with the slight crunch of blackberry seeds. The finish reveals a touch of tannins, providing structure and balance wine.” Jeff Porter, 90 points, Best Buy, Wine Enthusiast
“Ruby-red color with notes of strawberries, violets, pomegranates and honey. Soft and clean, with just a gentle fizz, subtle tannins and well-balanced sweetness.” 89 points, James Suckling
