Part of Nino Negri since 1897, this vineyard lies in the Valgella zone of Vigna Fracia. It’s the coldest historic area of Valtellina, a seven-hectare single cru where several alpine valleys converge and glacial influence keeps temperatures lower than average. Despite the cool climate, the natural vegetation is strikingly Mediterranean, with lavender and rosemary growing among the terraces—a vivid contrast to the crisp mountain air. The vineyard is exceptionally steep, with slopes ranging from 55 to 65 degrees, providing vital sun exposure but making hand‑picking essential.
After harvest, the grapes are destemmed and vinified traditionally, with pumping over and délestage at warm temperatures. Malolactic fermentation follows, and the wine then ages for at least 12 months in medium‑sized oak barrels, with a small portion in barriques, before bottling and a further 18 months of refinement.

The cool microclimate prolongs Nebbiolo’s growing season, resulting in a bright ruby colour and complex aromatics. Notes of dog rose and violet evolve into subtle spice, including rosemary and lavender that echo the vineyard’s own herbs. The palate is dense and well‑structured, with firm, rich tannins balanced by fresh acidity and a long, flavourful finish. Additional bottle age brings harmony to the wine’s natural power.
“Although the bouquet is not as expressive as some of its peers, it opens slowly with notes of cassis, dried orange peel and sweet nectarine. The bouquet is characterised by red berries, fruit and a hint of wild roses and mountain flowers. It is delicate and light in texture. This wine is packaged in a bottle with a greenish-grey label that reflects the slate soils of Valgella. Give it a little more time in the bottle.” 93 points, Wine Advocate
“Firm and chewy, this compact red opens in the glass, offering a tarry undertow, with flavors of baked cherry, medicinal herbs and white pepper, plus a touch of black licorice. Long and minerally on the finish.” 93 points, Wine Spectator
